List of works by author Diango Hernández

Diango Hernández was born in 1970 in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, where he studied industrial design. His path changed when he opted for an artistic career and decided to travel abroad, before settling in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he currently lives and works. In parallel to his personal practice, he has an ongoing curatorial project with German artist Anne Poehlmann, lonelyfingers, through which they collaborate with other artists. Lonelyfingers has recently been showcased at Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach.

Hernández’s work is a reaction to the cultural questionings and difficulties his country, Cuba, is immersed in, after promises of an enlightened post-colonial growth that never really happened, as well as his personal world and encounters with other contexts. Moving back and forth between Cuba and Europe, he finds himself in a very particular position to mirror and reverse post-colonial views. Hernández’s work has been included in many group shows in international institutions such as MOMA in New York and the Hayward Gallery in London, and has been presented at the 2005 Venice Biennale, the 2006 Biennales in São Paulo and Sydney and the 2010 Liverpool Biennial. His first major solo exhibition was at MART, Roveretto, in 2012.
